Castleton Farms inspiration board

The theme, the dress, the veil, the flowers, the bridesmaid dresses, the centerpieces, the linens. Aaahh! Planning a wedding can sometimes be overwhelming. Creating an inspiration board can bring it all together and center your thoughts and ideas.

Brides at Castleton Farms are discovering that their inspiration boards are a useful resource to help visualize the wedding as a whole. Darla Walker, Events and Facility Director of Castleton Farms, said they are creating inspiration boards for their brides prior to their Experience Castleton Day. Their “day” is the stress-free experience at the venue where bridal couples meet with vendors to discuss wedding plans.

An inspiration board is comprised of snapshots and images of all aspects of the wedding, like the ceremony site, color swatches, flower ideas, the dress, table setting, etc. It captures the “feel” or the mood you want your wedding to evoke.

Inspiration boards are a great planning tool that can be created the digital way or the DIY collage way. The digital way allows flexibility. If you find something that you’d like to substitute on your inspiration board, it’s a matter of clicking and deleting. Also, online resources are so voluminous, it’s easy to find exactly what you’re looking for.

To create a digital inspiration board, many use Polyvore, a free web-based application for mixing and matching images from anywhere on the web. It lets you create sets composed of individual images using a surprisingly easy-to-use drag and drop editor.

For those creative types, the DIY method can be very useful too. Many cover their inspiration board with fabric in the wedding color scheme. Then use tacky glue or push pins to add elements like magazine pictures, snapshots or swatches.

One look at their inspiration board can calm a stressed bride and provide a glimpse of their special day.
